The undoubted pedigree of
previous Footlights shows is still obviously a 'pull' as the packed
out venue indicated, and the average age of the audience is probably
higher than most Fringe shows.
That is not to say that they
are the safe option, I have seen a couple of Footlights shows that
were singularly below par. This was not one of those.
The cast of five, four male,
one female have talent to spare and each plays their role in this
comic play with panache.
The plot, centres in a pub
complete with sinister landlord and simple cook and a variety of
patrons of said establishment.
An actor, the local deputy
head master and a 'man-eating' young lady are the other central
characters in this piece.
There is a little bit of our
barman chatting up a young lady on the front row, same character
giving his display of 80's dancing and a visitation of the school
drama club.
The cook plays his role that
could be a master class in comic timing and each of the others have
their five minutes in the spot light developing their character.
I confidently expect to see
some if not all these performers on the television in the near
future, so Today of all days could be your chance to see 'live' some
comic stars of the future.
