Gladiatrix:
She Wolf of Rome
|
Fringe
Programme page 30 |
This is as funny a bit of
Roman comedy theatre as you could ever hope to see anywhere. It is a
romp through the best, and worst clichés that could ever be
expected to see in one hour. You almost expect to be greeted
by Frankie Howard with' The Prologue'.
Our heroine, Vulva, so named
'cause that's where she came from,
is a noblewoman forced to become a fully fledged Gladiator,
or Gladiatrix as she is known and is played by Lucy Montgomery. She
is almost unbeatable, and a la Match of the Day we are shown a slow-
motion replay of her last fight, where she gets a bikini line wax
without the benefit of the wax, and slays her opponent by
suffocating her complete with Trevor Brooking like analysis
We also have her slave
portrayed by James Bachman, and as all good slaves are, in love with
his mistress. He also plays the role of her father the
Emperor.
There is a third cast member,
Barunka O'Shaughnessy, who plays her mother, a lion, food tasters,
Mercury and any other parts that may be required.
So will Vulva, pronounced
'Woolwa' be reunited with her father, will she fall for her slave,
will all end happily. To find out and to enjoy a really funny piece
of comic theatre go and find out for yourself. After all it is the
Roman way!!
