Omid Djalili - Behind enemy lines

Fringe Programme page 45

Omid Djalli used to be unique. He used to be the only Iranian doing stand-up, now there are three, but Omid assures us he is still unique, he's the only one that's funny. I can confirm he is funny, the other two I'll take his word on.
The first part of his act, Omid plays up his Middle Eastern heritage almost lampooning it. He has of course played 'Dodgy Arabs' in movies like Gladiator and in Bond movies, so he certainly knows how to play the role, but then he reverts to his real accent, middle class English.
His act is heavily based on the events of September 11 and the differences it has made to his life as a British born Iranian. He is merciless in his ridicule of Ben Laden and other political leaders, Bush, Blair, Arafat and  Sharom all come in for a certain amount of ridicule as only he can.
He also has a pop at English, Scottish, American attitudes but reserves his real vitriol for the Germans and the Talliban.
Behind Enemy Lines is obviously more political than his previous shows, however this is just another example of the man's comic genius.
A post show discussion with two other audience members on what made this show stand out from others. We decided it was one word. Class!!
